The Hen & Chickens Guest House is very conveniently situated within easy walking distance of all Ludlow's attractions, including the castle, market, shops and restaurants. Unusual so close to the town centre is our large, secure, well-lit car park.
Built around 1760, the Hen & Chickens' original building reveals its age in sloping floors and ceilings, oak beams and steep, turning staircases. For over 200 years an inn, the name may have originated from the common stone bottles in which ale was sold; a hen being the larger, and of course the chicken, the smaller.
Due to its age and layout the building is not wheelchair accessible, the stairs may be a problem for anyone with limited mobility but we do have handrails to help.
Delicious breakfasts are served (cooked to perfection on grease free plates - Quality in Tourism Inspection Sep 07) including locally produced sausages, home cured bacon, free range eggs and our own homemade jams and marmalade. Continental and Vegetarian choices are also provided.
There is a spacious and comfortably furnished guests' sitting room with a log fire in the winter months.
Bedrooms have comfortable beds, colour TV, hot drinks tray, hairdryer etc. On the first floor there is an en-suite double and a single room with its own private bathroom, whilst on the second floor there is a double and a twin room, both en-suite. Bathrooms, all with showers, are large and decorated in bright, cheerful colours.
FREE BROADBAND is available in every room for our business visitors who wish to use their laptops.
We accept credit and debit cards [excluding American Express and Diners].
