The main building reveals its age in sloping floors and steep turning staircases. The original building was constructed around 1760 as an inn and the name may have originated from the common stone bottles in which ale was sold; a hen being the larger, and the chicken, the smaller. There are three rooms - Chaffinch, Goldfinch and Greenfinch.
< Vine Cottage (Hawfinch & Bullfinch rooms) is attached to the rear of the main building and has a separate entrance. Vine Cottage is the former stable block and has been renovated in the last two years.
The Hen & Chickens Guest House is ideally situated within easy walking distance of all of Ludlow’s attractions, including the castle, the medieval town walls, the market, churches, the Assembly Rooms and shops.
We are close to Ludlow’s many restaurants and pubs, including Michelin starred restaurants offering fine dining. Less than 2 minutes walk down Old Street leads to the River Teme, Horseshoe Weir and Whitcliffe Common offering stunning views of Ludlow and it’s castle.
