The Hen & Chickens Guest House is ideally situated within easy walking distance of all of Ludlow’s attractions, including the castle, the medieval town walls, the market, churches, the Assembly Rooms and shops.
We are close to Ludlow’s many restaurants and pubs, including two Michelin starred restaurants offering fine dining.A three minutes walk down Old Street leads to the River Teme and Whitcliffe Common offering stunning views of Ludlow and it’s castle.
Ludlow is set amongst the beautiful, unspoilt South Shropshire countryside making it ideal for walkers.Close by is the Mortimer Forest with numerous trails and over to the east of Ludlow are the two Clee Hills offering magnificent views of the Malverns, the Long Mynd and the Brecon Beacons.
The Hen & Chickens original building was constructed around 1760 as an inn.The name may have originated from the common stone bottles in which ale was sold; a hen being the larger, and the chicken, the smaller.
The Hen & Chickens reveals its age in sloping floors and ceilings and steep turning staircases.Adjacent to the main building, and with a separate entrance, is Vine Cottage, the former stable block that has recently been converted to provide two additional rooms.We have a gated car park with security lighting at the rear of the main building.
Our breakfast menu offers you a choice of cooked breakfast. Of course, a traditional full English breakfast is always available using locally produced sausages, home-cured bacon, and free range eggs. A number of vegetarian options are available. We provide a choice of cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt, and homemade jams and marmalade.
